Webbing slinging safety training is designed for workers who use webbing slings to lift and move heavy materials or loads on construction sites, warehouses, or industrial environments. This training ensures operators understand the proper use of webbing slings, safe lifting techniques, and hazard id
1. Regulations & Compliance
Follows OSHA 1910.184 (Slings) and ANSI/ASME B30.9 (Slings) regulations for safe lifting and material handling.
Operators must be trained and certified in webbing sling inspection, proper usage, and safe lifting practices.
2. Pre-Operation Safety Checks
Inspect the Sling: Before each use, inspect the webbing sling for cuts, fraying, and signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Discard any sling that shows signs of damage or degradation.
Check Load Capacity: Ensure the webbing sling is rated for the weight of the load being lifted. Never exceed the working load limit (WLL) marked on the sling.
Proper Attachment: Verify that the sling is properly attached to both the load and the lifting hook or equipment to ensure stability.
3. Safe Slinging and Lifting Procedures
Choose the Correct Sling: Select the right type and size of webbing sling based on the load’s weight, shape, and lifting method (vertical, basket, or choker hitch).
Load Balance: Ensure that the load is balanced and stable before lifting. Improperly balanced loads can shift, causing the sling to snap or the load to tip.
Safe Lifting Techniques: Lift the load slowly and steadily to prevent sudden jerks that could damage the webbing sling or cause instability in the load.
Communication: Use clear communication methods, such as hand signals or radios, to coordinate with the crane operator or team members during the lift.
4. Common Hazards & Prevention
Overloading: Never exceed the rated capacity of the webbing sling. Always ensure the sling is rated for the load being lifted to avoid breakage or accidents.
Wear and Tear: Webbing slings can wear down over time, especially with rough handling or exposure to harsh conditions. Ensure they are inspected regularly and replaced if needed.
Pinch Points: Be aware of pinch points between the load, the sling, and the lifting equipment. Keep hands and body parts clear of these areas during lifting.
Improper Slinging: Always ensure that slings are applied correctly. Incorrect sling configuration can lead to slippage, damage, or an unstable lift.
5. Emergency Procedures
Slippage or Failure: If the sling or load begins to slip, immediately stop the lift, lower the load to the ground, and reconfigure the sling before attempting another lift.
Injury Response: In case of injury, provide first aid and call for emergency services if needed. Ensure the injured worker is moved to a safe area.
Equipment Malfunction: If any lifting equipment fails, stop the operation immediately, secure the load, and notify a supervisor for inspection and repair.
6. Certification & Refresher Training
Initial Certification: Includes training on sling inspection, safe lifting techniques, hazard identification, and emergency procedures.
Refresher Training: Recommended every 1-2 years or after an incident to ensure operators are familiar with updated safety procedures and equipment standards.
