Mathematical Reasoning: This section measures mathematical skills such as quantitative problem-solving, algebraic problem-solving, and interpreting and using data. It includes the following content areas:
Number operations and number sense
Algebraic expressions and equations
Geometry and measurement
Data analysis, probability, and statistics
General Science: This section measures understanding of physical science, life science, and earth and space science. It includes the following content areas:
Physical science, including physics and chemistry
Life science, including biology and health
Earth and space science, including geology, meteorology, and astronomy
Social Studies: This section measures understanding of history, civics, geography, and economics. It includes the following content areas:
US history, including the American Revolution, Civil War, and Civil Rights Movement
World history, including ancient civilizations, the Middle Ages, and the World Wars

Each section of the GED test is timed and multiple-choice, except for the Language Arts section, which includes an essay. The GED test is administered in person at official testing centers and can be taken in English and Spanish.
