Day 1:
Module 1: Introducing the Construction Industry
This module will present the construction industry worldwide, its significance, impact on economies. In addition, this module also presents the unique characteristics and challenges of the industry, such as the nature of the production process, fragmentation, technical complexity, and similar.
The conclusion of this module addresses the establishment of the main objectives of a construction project, focusing on the TCQ factors.
Module 2: Establishing the Contractual and Financial terms
This module presents the construction contracts starting by the procurement route, presenting traditional, design and build, and construction management.
It then follows into identifying the consequences of deciding a procurement route and choosing the international form of agreement that is the most suitable.
The module then proceeds into details of construction contracts, highlighting the clauses that are the most needed and introducing in this context the methods of project budgeting (lump-sum, measurement, etc.) as well as the cost vs. price modules and other financial elements.
Day 2:
Module 3: The Design Process
This module presents the various disciplines of design involved in the construction industry, by presenting the purpose, inputs, outcomes, and assessment of each.
The observed designs include architectural design, structural design, MEP design, interior design, landscape design, infrastructure design, and lighting design. Every discipline is presented in order to create a comprehensive understanding of designing construction projects for the attendees.
Module 4: Project Tendering
After completing the design stage, the course proceeds into the preparation of awarding the main construction contract.
This phase discusses the methods of preparing tenders, compiling the needed documents, the process of tendering, receiving offers, evaluating the bids, conducting negotiation and value engineering sessions, and until project award.
Day 3:
Module 5: The Sequence of Site Activities and Client Selections
After awarding the main construction contract, the progress proceeds at site activities. This module presents the order of activities conducted at the site, starting with earthworks, structural works, civil works, and concluding with MEP and finishing works.
This module also presents the needed appointment of subcontractors, suppliers, and sub-consultants that may needed throughout the project construction phase.
Module 6: Managing and Closing the Project
The final module presents various cases and scenarios of challenges that may arise during the construction period, by presenting these challenges and their solutions.
This session is expected to involve discussions that enhance the understanding of construction contracts and finances.
The end of the module will present a checklist for project closing and handover activities announcing the end of the construction project cycle and commencement of O&M stages.
